Doubling Down on an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

I’ve got to admit, this whole diet shift is a hard one for me. I love all the foods I’m supposed to avoid – with cheese topping the list.

But I’ve learned way too much about the role inflammation plays in degenerative disease to keep dabbling on the sidelines. So, starting Now, I’m taking the next leap. I’m quitting wheat (totally quitting), quitting dairy and am even going to try to switch to tea from coffee. Sounds like I need to break my egg habit, too. But I’m going for it. For those of you who are interested, I found this great anti-inflammation diet outline by Dr. Andy Weil.

The good news is that we can still drink wine – as long as it’s red wine. And a little dark chocolate here and there is fine. Who wants to join me?

Ing, I’m totally proud of you for doing this! About 8 years ago, I was asked by an alternative practitioner that I was seeing to quit coffee for one month and switch to tea. Just one month. She observed that she thought that coffee made me “hard”. So I switched, and I’ve never gone back! That is not to say that I don’t still enjoy coffee, but since making the shift I really can feel the effects of caffeine on my body. Even things like my handwriting suffer from it. About 1-2x per month, I will still enjoy a cup of coffee. But green tea has become my go-to! Try the Yogi Super Antioxidant Green Tea. You can buy it at TJ’s. Once you get comfy with green tea, I’ll make all kinds of other suggestions for you too! Keep us posted on how it goes for you.

I swear the coffee part of this is the HARDEST part for me because I look forward to my one eight ounce hemp mocha daily. But I”m join to try … really really hard to do this.

I won’t be joining you but your willingness to change your diet so dramatically is an inspiration. It makes me feel like one day when I’ll need to make changes, it is possible. It’s also VERY reassuring that this diet doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little chocolate. Best of luck to you, Ingrid. Thanks for continuing to inspire and motivate us. All the best to you, as always.

Hi Ingrids, I agree with That diet but why cut on eggs ??

    • ingridricks says:

So…I’ve changed my mind on the eggs. Some anti-inflammation diets say no eggs because of what’s of the inflammatory fats in the yolk. But others say it’s fine if you go with all organic, omega 3 enhanced eggs…so that’s what I’m doing.

I’m with you! I have basically been doing this since may and I feel great- my back and hip pain are gone and I have never slept better in my
Life. It’s a slow-carb diet- no wheat no sugar no dairy no white starches at all- no rice no taters- you can have red wine and a cheat day once a week….emphasis on greens and beans and legumes and meat. Lots of water….. But I can eat eggs and we eat ALOT of them:) Good luck!

Thanks, Juli. You are actually my inspiration for a lot of this. I did decide to eat eggs as well because from what I read – eggs also contain a lot of good. So I’m just going with the Omega 3 enhanced eggs (and all organic). Trying to not drink any alcohol this month..but then switch to red wine. xo
